ACHIEVE YOUR DESIRED WEIGHT: Through Balance
by Dr. William Rice DC, DACBN, CCN, FACCN

There is a battle raging in homes across the country. It's not a battle of the sexes, or the generation gap. It is a battle of the bulge, the war against weight; a struggle pitting every man, woman and child against the bathroom scale.

Experts are now calling the "fattening of America" a national epidemic. Americans are eating more and more "low fat" foods over the last 15 years and still getting fatter.

Consider these facts:

  • In 1991 one third of the population was found to be obese, a 32% increase over the previous 10 years.
  • In the last 7 years, while intake of dietary saturated fats and cholesterol were
decreasing, the weight of young adults increased by 10 pounds!
  • At 23% body fat, the average man is 53% fatter than his ideal (15% body fat).
  • At 32% body fat, the average woman is 45% fatter than her ideal (22% body fat).
  • Obesity is associated with risk to heart disease, hypertension, various cancers, adult onset diabetes and reduced life expectancy to mention a few.
  • The annual cost of treating conditions associated with obesity has been
conservatively estimated to be $39 billion.
People ask: "Why am I gaining weight when I am more conscious of what I eat and how much fat I consume? What am I missing?" The missing critical element is balance!

A balanced ratio of macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats) in our diet, along with proper calorie intake and exercise is the key to permanent weight loss and optimal health.

An imbalanced ratio of dietary macronutrients influences the levels of three powerful hormone regulators; insulin, glucagon and seratonin, which then dramatically influence body fat. Consuming excessive refined carbohydrates (white sugar, white flour, etc.) inadequate protein and excessive poor quality fats may produce the following hormone imbalances and their effects:

Elevated Insulin May Result In:
  • Increased hunger, fatigue, mental confusion and depression.
  • Removal of carbohyrates from bloodstream, stimulating fat formation and storage.
  • Blocking the release of fat from storage.

Reduced Glucagon May Result In:
  • Decreased mental clarity and alertness.
  • Decreased endurance.
  • Increased hunger.
  • Decreased healing and repair processes.
  • Reduced release of fat from storage.
Imbalanced Serotonin May Result In:
  • Increased appetite and carbohydrate craving.
Balancing the macronutrient ratios serves to help optimize the levels of these hormones. This, in turn, helps to support emotional stability, mental clarity, physical endurance, appetite control, fat burning and the achievement of your desired weight.

The program we recommend will provide your individual macronutrient requirements. It will guide you to eat smaller, more frequent meals. It will demonstrate that achieving this balance is easy by a using a delicious, ratio-balanced, powdered nutritional beverage and/or healthy, balanced food choices. Additional supplements are also available that are proven to reduce body fat.

We will do all we can to help you enjoy optimal body composition and function with greater energy and physical performance.
